The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused Governor Ademola Adeleke of allegedly harbouring the Commander of the Osun Amotekun Corps, Adekunle Omoyele, who is reportedly wanted by the police in connection with the killing of residents of Akinlalu community by operatives of the corps.
In a statement signed by its spokesperson, Kola Olabisi, and released in Osogbo on Sunday, the APC called on Adeleke to cooperate fully with law enforcement and hand over Omoyele to the police for questioning.
The controversy stems from a September 30, 2025, operation in which Amotekun officers allegedly invaded Akinlalu, opened fire on residents, and killed three people. The victims were identified as Ibrahim Oyebamiji (26), Sefiu Oyebamiji, and Abiola Olutayo, while several others sustained injuries.
The incident sparked widespread outrage and calls for justice. Although the Amotekun Corps admitted three deaths occurred, it claimed its operatives were ambushed by hoodlums while attempting to recover two seized rifles.
Following the killings, the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, ordered a special investigation team to take over the case. Five Amotekun operatives have since been arrested, but Omoyele has reportedly failed to honour police invitations.
The APC, while commending Adeleke’s earlier praise for the police’s handling of the case, accused him of hypocrisy.
“To prove he is not merely paying lip service to justice, Governor Adeleke must expose and hand over Commander Isaac Adekunle Omoyele,” the party said. “If it is true that Omoyele has been hiding in the Government House to evade arrest, it is condemnable, irresponsible, and unpatriotic.”
The party further accused the governor of “aiding and abetting criminality,” likening Omoyele’s alleged disappearance to that of a former chief security officer who, it claimed, also went into hiding after being exposed for false claims.
“As a self-professed believer in the rule of law, Governor Adeleke must hand over Omoyele to the police to allow for a transparent investigation into the Akinlalu killings, which have become a national embarrassment,” the statement added.
Responding, Governor Adeleke, through his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, dismissed the APC’s claims as “baseless and politically motivated.”
He reaffirmed his government’s commitment to due process and non-interference in police investigations.
“The Akinlalu case is a matter of law and order, and the Inspector-General of Police is handling it. Our government will not interfere. We urge everyone to avoid politicising this tragedy,” the statement read.
Adeleke also accused the opposition of spreading falsehoods to score cheap political points.
“The Osun APC has become a habitual purveyor of fake news. We will not bow to blackmail or be distracted from delivering good governance to the people of Osun,” he stated
