South Africa’s captain, Ronwen Williams, has expressed confidence that Benin Republic will not defeat Nigeria in their crucial 2026 World Cup qualifier on Tuesday.
Bafana Bafana are relying on the Super Eagles to either win or secure a draw in order to boost South Africa’s chances of clinching the sole qualification spot from Group C. However, Williams and his teammates must first overcome Rwanda in their own fixture to stay in contention.
South Africa’s qualification hopes suffered a setback following a goalless draw against Zimbabwe on Friday.
“If you look back a month ago, everything was going well for us to qualify for the World Cup — until FIFA deducted three points from us for fielding an ineligible player, Teboho Mokoena, against Lesotho in March,” Williams told Sports Wire.
“But I still believe everything will work out in our favour, and people need to understand that. I believe in fairy tales.”
