Two Arrested for Attempted Murder and Motorcycle Theft in Kogi

Operatives of the Kogi State Vigilante Service (KSVS) have arrested two suspects — Omika Isah, alleged to be a motorcycle thief and bandits’ informant, and his accomplice, Stephen Garuba — in connection with an attempted murder and motorcycle theft in the Itobe community, Ofu Local Government Area of Kogi State.

The Controller-General of KSVS, Alhaji Ibrahim Oneiza Sani (DIG Rtd), announced the arrest in a statement released to journalists in Lokoja over the weekend.

According to the statement signed by the KSVS Public Relations Officer, Idris S. Idris, the suspects were apprehended on October 20, 2025, by operatives from the Itobe Command following a distress report.

The suspects reportedly lured a commercial motorcycle rider, Yunusa Salihu, to the Ettutu Forest in Itobe, where they brutally assaulted him, leaving him unconscious, and made away with his motorcycle.

“The criminals, thinking Yunusa had died, fled the scene. Fortunately, he was rescued by a good Samaritan inside the forest and later assisted to the nearest KSVS security post,” the statement revealed.

Following the report, KSVS operatives launched a swift operation that led to the arrest of both suspects at separate hideouts.

The statement added that Salihu is currently receiving treatment in critical condition at a medical facility.

Recovered items include the victim’s motorcycle and a Tecno CM4 mobile phone.

The vigilante service disclosed that the suspects had confessed to the crime and admitted to participating in similar criminal activities within the community.

They have since been handed over to relevant security agencies for further investigation and prosecution.
