Ghislaine Maxwell Opens Up About Epstein Relationship in Newly Released DOJ Interviews

Newly released Justice Department interview transcripts and audio tapes reveal Ghislaine Maxwell’s detailed account of her relationship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

The 63-year-old former socialite described herself as both a romantic partner and the “general manager” of Epstein’s vast real estate empire, according to two days of interviews conducted in Tallahassee last month by Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche.

Maxwell recalled meeting Epstein in 1991 and said she believed they would date after sleeping with him once the following year. Instead, their relationship evolved into a complicated mix of intimacy, dependence, and professional obligation.

She explained that Epstein had her secure luxury properties for him — including one from a former Iranian ambassador — while she lived in a small 10-by-10-foot apartment. “He was my life line,” she said, adding that her salary eventually grew from $25,000 to $250,000 as she managed his multimillion-dollar homes.

From 1992 to 1996, the pair traveled extensively, including stays at Balmoral Cabin in England with Prince Andrew. Maxwell claimed Epstein told her he had a heart condition, which limited their sexual relationship. She admitted their intimacy ended by 1999, and she considered any remaining romantic ties “over after 9/11,” when Epstein refused to see her in New York.

Despite this, Maxwell continued working with Epstein until his 2008 conviction for soliciting underage girls. He later died in federal custody in 2019.

Maxwell was convicted in 2021 for trafficking and grooming underage victims for Epstein and is currently serving a 20-year sentence. She was quietly transferred last month to a minimum-security prison in Texas, where the DOJ interviews were recorded.
