Lagos Police Disband Tactical Squad, Detain Officers for Assaulting Motorist with Camera Glasses

The Lagos State Police Command has disbanded one of its tactical squads and detained its operatives after a viral video showed them assaulting a motorist during a stop-and-search operation.

The footage captured officers attempting to forcibly remove the motorist’s glasses, which they suspected contained a hidden camera. The situation escalated when one of the policemen struck the driver.

Police spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed that Commissioner of Police Olohundare Jimoh ordered the immediate detention of the officers involved, pending an orderly room trial in line with disciplinary procedures.

“The Commissioner has directed swift disciplinary action to ensure justice is served transparently,” Hundeyin said.

He further announced the dissolution of the implicated tactical squad and the creation of a new unit that will operate under strict international policing standards, uphold human dignity, and maintain zero tolerance for corruption.

The Nigeria Police Force also condemned the officers’ actions and reaffirmed its commitment to accountability, integrity, and fair service to the public.
