The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has sealed off an unregistered herbal medicine production plant in Kaduna State.
The facility, identified as SHIFA’UNNUR and located in Mararaba Jos, Igabi Local Government Area, was closed during an enforcement operation led by Mr. Shamsuddeen Mani, Principal Regulatory Officer of NAFDAC.
According to Mani, the plant was operating without regulatory approval and failed to meet the agency’s minimum operational standards. He described the equipment found at the site as “substandard and unhygienic,” warning that the products posed serious health risks since their safety, quality, and efficacy could not be guaranteed.
“Acting on credible intelligence, we shut down an illegal herbal medicine facility in Mararaba Jos. All products found there were unregistered and unsafe for public use,” Mani said.
NAFDAC officials seized unregistered herbal products valued at over N5 million, which are scheduled for destruction. The facility will remain sealed while investigations continue.
Mani reaffirmed NAFDAC’s commitment to protecting public health, stressing that the agency will not hesitate to clamp down on any individual or organization violating its regulations.
