Rapper Lil Nas X to Remain in Custody Until Monday After Assaulting Police Officer

American rapper Lil Nas X will remain in jail through the weekend following his arrest for allegedly assaulting a police officer and being hospitalised for a suspected overdose.

The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed that the 26-year-old cannot be released on citation due to the seriousness of the charge. He is required to appear before a judge on Monday before bail can be considered.

Authorities stated that the charge falls under Penal Code 69(a) PC, which involves using force or violence to resist or obstruct an officer in the performance of their duties, according to Daily Mail.

The incident occurred early Thursday morning on Ventura Boulevard, where witnesses reported seeing the “Old Town Road” star walking in the street wearing only underwear and cowboy boots, singing, posing, and speaking about a party.

When officers arrived, Lil Nas X allegedly rushed at them, prompting his restraint and subsequent hospitalisation for a possible overdose. He was later booked on charges of battery against a police officer.

Family sources reportedly expressed concern about his erratic behaviour and are said to be considering an intervention.

He is expected to remain in custody until his court hearing on Monday, when bail conditions will be determined.
