Senator Datti Baba-Ahmed, Labour Party’s 2023 vice-presidential candidate and running mate to Peter Obi, has described the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as “a grand deception,” accusing it of sheltering politicians who contributed to Nigeria’s decline during the Muhammadu Buhari era.
In a Friday night interview on Channels TV, Baba-Ahmed said Nigeria’s biggest challenges are rooted in a fraudulent leadership recruitment process that consistently produces corrupt and self-serving leaders.
“Insecurity stems from electoral fraud. Corruption is fueled by the kind of elections we conduct. The destruction of our youth and judiciary is guaranteed by the fraudulent electoral system we run,” he said.
He criticized Buhari’s government, calling it “one of the most corrupt in Nigeria’s history,” and recalled that Buhari himself once served under the late General Sani Abacha’s regime, from which Nigeria is still recovering stolen funds.
Baba-Ahmed alleged that Buhari’s circle of allies, driven by self-interest and campaign financing, are now attempting to reinvent themselves under the ADC ahead of 2027.
“They are deceiving us. The ADC is a deception. Those who ruined Nigeria between 2015 and 2023 cannot suddenly claim they want to fix the country,” he declared.
Reaffirming his loyalty to Peter Obi and the Labour Party, he added:
“I am in the Labour Party, for God’s sake. I am a Peter Obi man, and I want him to contest again in 2027.”
