Armed robbers on Monday attacked a bank customer near the Oyo State Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan, and stole an undisclosed sum of money, the Oyo State Police Command has confirmed.
The command’s Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Adewale Osifeso, stated that the incident occurred around 8:00 a.m.. The robbers reportedly tracked the victim, who was in a metallic grey Nissan Primera (EPE 901 PS), and forcefully took the money.
“A bank depositor traveling in a metallic grey Nissan Primera was tracked and robbed of a substantial, yet-to-be-determined amount of cash,” Osifeso said.
During a confrontation with the robbers, an officer from the command sustained serious injuries while attempting to prevent further chaos. Fortunately, there were no fatalities, and the injured officer is receiving medical care at a secure facility.
Osifeso urged members of the public with information about the robbery to report to the nearest police station to assist in the prompt arrest of the suspects.
This incident follows previous daylight armed robberies in Ibadan, including the August killing of Ojo Peters, publisher of Daily Monitor Online blog and media aide to Maharaj Ji, in Oke-Ado, Ibadan South-West LGA.
