The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced a postponement of the screening of aspirants for its 2025 Elective National Convention, originally scheduled for Tuesday, October 28, 2025.
In a statement on Monday, Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, Chairman of the National Convention Organising Committee (NCOC) and Governor of Adamawa State, explained that the delay was due to “unforeseen circumstances.” A new date for the screening will be announced soon.
“A new date will be communicated once fixed. The NCOC regrets any inconvenience caused by the postponement. All aspirants and party members should take note and be guided accordingly,” the statement read.
Fintiri emphasized the committee’s commitment to ensuring a transparent, credible, and smooth national convention.
The PDP’s 2025 Elective National Convention is scheduled to hold on November 15–16, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State. Earlier, on October 25, 2025, the party had unveiled a 13-member National Convention Screening Committee tasked with vetting aspirants for various national positions ahead of the convention.
The screening committee, chaired by Eyitayo Jegede, SAN, former Ondo State governorship candidate, was set to carry out the process on October 28, 2025.
The postponement comes shortly after former Jigawa State Governor Alhaji Sule Lamido announced his intention to contest for the position of national chairman. This follows reports that northern PDP leaders had endorsed former Minister Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN, as their consensus candidate for the chairmanship, a decision opposed by factions loyal to Lamido and Nyesom Wike, citing lack of adequate consultation.
The development underscores rising tensions within the party, which has experienced notable resignations in recent months.
