A surprising twist emerged during Cameroon’s presidential election on Sunday when the image of Egyptian football star Mohamed Salah appeared on the list of registered voters at the Ngaoundéré III polling station.
Following verification, several media outlets confirmed that Salah’s image was indeed visible on Elecam’s official website, the electoral body overseeing the polls.
While many social media users reacted with humor, the incident has reignited serious concerns about the accuracy and credibility of Cameroon’s voter registration system.
Vote counting began on Sunday after an election in which incumbent President Paul Biya, 92, the world’s oldest sitting ruler, is widely expected to extend his 43-year rule.
