Police Arrest Two Drug Barons, Seize Large Quantity of Illicit Drugs in Delta

The Delta State Police Command has arrested two suspected drug barons, identified as Igwe Samson and Abalum Sunday, during a raid on a hideout in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area of the state.

In a statement released on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, the Command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed that a substantial quantity of illicit drugs was recovered from the suspects.

According to Edafe, the operation was carried out by operatives of the Command’s Crack Squad, Asaba, following credible intelligence.

“On 12/10/2025, at about 0500hrs, operatives acting on reliable information stormed a suspected drug hideout in Effurun GRA and apprehended the duo of Igwe Samson (33) and Abalum Sunday (39),” the statement read.

A search conducted on the suspects’ Sienna vehicle led to the recovery of:

450 bottles of CSP Codeine

188 bottles of Bargadine

208 sachets of Tramadol (100mg)

300 sachets of Swinol

100 sachets of Tramadol (500mg)

50 sachets of Rohypnol

A large bag of substances suspected to be cannabis

Preliminary investigations revealed that one of the suspects has been involved in the illicit drug trade for over two years, sourcing his supply from Onitsha and often traveling at night to evade arrest.

Efforts are currently ongoing to apprehend other members of the syndicate, including suppliers and distributors.

Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, commended the operatives for their diligence and warned youths against engaging in drug trafficking and abuse, describing it as a major driver of criminal activities.

He further cautioned that “drug abuse is dangerous to health and destructive to the future of those involved. It must be avoided at all costs.”
