Rapper and Netflix Star Ghetts Appears in Court Following Fatal Hit-and-Run

British rapper and Netflix star Ghetts has appeared in court after a student, 20, was killed in a hit-and-run incident.

Ghetts, whose real name is Justin Clarke-Samuel, is accused of striking Nepalese student Yubin Tamang while driving his black BMW M5 in Ilford, east London, on the night of October 18.

Clarke-Samuel, 41, allegedly failed to stop after the collision, which occurred at around 11:33 pm. The impact reportedly sent Tamang flying 70 feet; he later died in hospital two days after the crash.

Wearing a grey prison tracksuit and sporting a beard, Clarke-Samuel appeared at Barkingside Magistrates' Court, speaking only to confirm his name and date of birth, while flanked by two prison officers.

The courtroom was filled with members of the victim’s family. At the administrative hearing, the charge was upgraded from causing serious injury to causing death by dangerous driving, although Clarke-Samuel was not asked to enter a plea.

The court heard that Tamang, an only child, had been sent to the UK by his parents to pursue his studies. CCTV footage showed him walking along Redbridge Lane East moments before being struck by the vehicle.

Clarke-Samuel was arrested at his home in the early hours following the incident. He was remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear next at the Old Bailey on November 24.

Ghetts is an award-winning rapper and songwriter who has collaborated with artists including Skepta, Stormzy, and Ed Sheeran, accumulating millions of streams on Spotify.
