SAD: Two schoolchildren electrocuted during rainfall in Anambra (video)

Tragedy struck in Nnewichi, Nnewi North Local Government Area of Anambra State, as two schoolchildren were electrocuted during a heavy downpour.

The unfortunate incident reportedly occurred at St. Peter’s Claver Junction, where the minors had taken shelter in a roadside shop to escape the rain.

Eyewitnesses and CCTV footage circulating online show that several pupils had sought refuge in the shop when the accident happened. According to one resident, panic erupted when the wet bodies of the two children accidentally touched a live metal, leading to instant electrocution.

“Many pupils were hiding in the shop from the rain when tragedy struck. The two children came in contact with a live metal and were electrocuted instantly. Others narrowly escaped, including some bystanders who were shocked at how quickly it all happened,” the witness recounted.

Reports indicate that the shop owner had not yet opened for business at the time. Security operatives and good Samaritans later retrieved the victims’ bodies using protective gloves.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said investigations were ongoing.

“The facts are still unclear. The divisional police officer has been directed to gather comprehensive details. Once available, I will provide an update,” Ikenga stated.
