Police in Delhi, India, have arrested a woman accused of brutally attacking her husband while he was asleep. The victim, a 28-year-old man identified as Dinesh, was reportedly scalded with boiling oil and then had chilli powder sprinkled on his wounds in the early hours of October 2 at their home in Madangir, where the couple lived with their six-month-old daughter.
According to local reports, Dinesh woke up around 3:15 a.m. in excruciating pain and found his wife, Sadhana, standing over him. He alleged that she poured the hot oil over his torso and face before adding chilli powder to the burns. Dinesh, who works as a medical representative, also claimed that Sadhana threatened to pour more oil if he tried to call for help.
Neighbours rushed to the scene after hearing his screams but said Sadhana initially refused to open the door. The landlord’s family eventually intervened, allowing rescuers to reach Dinesh, who was taken to Safdarjung Hospital and placed in intensive care due to severe burns.
Residents of the building revealed that the couple, who had moved in about seven months earlier, often engaged in loud arguments and had a troubled relationship. One neighbour, Manju, said she learned about their domestic issues soon after moving into the building two months ago, while another resident, Anjali, confirmed hearing Dinesh’s cries for help that night.
Police from the Ambedkar Nagar station confirmed that a case has been filed. The couple had been married for eight years and had previously drawn police attention over reports of domestic disputes. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
