"Illegal Baby Factory Busted by Anambra Govt; Pregnant Teens Rescued, Fake Doctor Apprehended"

In a bold effort to protect vulnerable youths and cleanse the healthcare system, the Anambra State Government, in conjunction with security operatives, has dismantled an illicit baby factory disguised as Mother and Child Hospital and Maternity in Umunya, Oyi LGA. The Saturday, July 26, 2025 raid resulted in the rescue of several underage pregnant girls and the arrest of a long-wanted fake medical practitioner.

Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike, revealed that the suspect had been on the run since February 2024 after escaping during a prior inspection. Thanks to the intervention of Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra (OCHA Brigade), he has now been apprehended.

The Commissioner underscored that the newly established State Hospital Monitoring and Accreditation Unit, championed by Governor Charles Soludo, has been instrumental in exposing fraudulent medical operations. The unit conducts surprise inspections across the state, ensuring that both public and private health facilities comply with established standards.

Obidike described the victims as visibly malnourished and emotionally distressed. Shockingly, the girls disclosed that their babies were to be sold after delivery for up to ₦1.5 million, with the fake doctor exploiting them under the guise of providing medical care.
