Officials from the Kwara State Ministry of Environment have sealed a cold room in Ilorin, the state capital, after discovering that spoiled fish was being sold to unsuspecting residents.
Environmental officers reportedly intercepted the bad fish during an inspection and traced its source to the facility, which was immediately shut down.
Confirming the development, the Commissioner for Environment, Hajia Nafisat Buge, said the ministry confiscated the spoiled fish and sealed off the premises.
“It is unacceptable for any business dealing in food products to sell spoiled items meant for human consumption. Our officials have acted appropriately by stopping the sales, seizing the products, and sealing the facility,” she stated.
Buge further cautioned traders to refrain from selling unwholesome food items, describing such practices as inhuman, illegal, and ungodly.
