‘Settle the war or face Tomahawks’ — Trump warns Russia

U.S. President Donald Trump has issued a fresh warning to Russia, saying he may authorize the supply of long-range Tomahawk cruise missiles to Ukraine if Moscow fails to end the ongoing war soon.

Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One en route to Israel and Egypt, Trump said, “I might say, ‘Look, if this war isn’t going to be settled, I’m going to send them Tomahawks.’” He described the Tomahawk as an “incredible, very offensive weapon” that Russia would not want to face, hinting that the threat alone could push President Vladimir Putin toward negotiation.

The warning came after what Trump called a “very productive” phone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who requested the missiles to strengthen Ukraine’s long-range strike and air defense capabilities. Tomahawk missiles, with ranges reaching up to 2,500 kilometers (1,550 miles), would give Ukraine the ability to hit targets deep inside Russian territory.

Trump admitted that such a move would mark “a new step of aggression,” adding, “I don’t think Russia wants Tomahawks going in that direction.”

Moscow has repeatedly cautioned against such a transfer. Putin previously warned that deploying Tomahawks to Ukraine would “seriously damage” U.S.-Russia relations and escalate the conflict into “a qualitatively new stage.”

Trump emphasized that it would be in Putin’s best interest to seek peace, saying, “I really think Mr. Putin would look great if he got this settled — and it’s not going to be good for him if he doesn’t.”
