The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has cautioned governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that their continued effort to exclude him from key party decisions could lead to the collapse of the party.
Speaking during his monthly media briefing, Wike — who has been in a prolonged dispute with some PDP governors — voiced his frustration over being sidelined despite his significant role and long-standing influence within the party.
“Didn’t I say it before? The trap you’re setting will consume you. The way these current governors are running things, they’ll bury this party,” he warned.
The former Rivers State governor questioned why he has been excluded from major consultations simply because of his current ministerial role.
“I’m the FCT Minister. So because I’m not a governor, you’ll hold a PDP stakeholders’ meeting and exclude me — and still expect the party to survive?” he asked.
Wike also dismissed claims that the All Progressives Congress (APC) was responsible for the PDP’s internal divisions, insisting that the crisis was self-inflicted.
“All this talk about APC is nonsense. Is it APC that makes you take wrong decisions? You mean two or three governors who get big allocations can just decide everything, and I should follow? Follow who?” he said.
On the upcoming PDP national convention, scheduled for November 15–16 in Ibadan, Oyo State, Wike accused the party leadership of failing to carry out necessary preparations.
“If they’ve done the right thing, who would stop the convention? They haven’t completed the congresses or other groundwork required,” he added.
Wike’s remarks highlight growing tensions within the PDP as it prepares for a crucial convention that could shape its future direction.
