Fashion icon and former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham has opened up about her decision to remove her breast implants in 2004 — a move she says was crucial to being taken seriously in the fashion industry.
In her Netflix documentary Beckham, Victoria reflected on her journey from pop star and footballer’s wife to acclaimed designer, admitting that she once felt pressure to maintain a glamorous, over-the-top image.
During the late ’90s and early 2000s, she was a prominent member of the famous “WAGs” circle — known for their striking fashion, bold makeup, and red-carpet confidence. But by 2004, Victoria said she began seeking a new identity.
“I don’t know where those boobs went, but they went,” she joked. “It was definitely working with Roland [Mouret] that did it. He’s incredible — and I wouldn’t have a career if it weren’t for him.”
Beckham credited her friend and designer Roland Mouret for advising her to simplify her image and focus on her craft. That shift, she said, became a defining moment in her professional transformation.
“I wanted to move forward,” she explained. “I wanted people to pay attention to my work, not my appearance.”
The decision marked a turning point, helping her evolve from pop glamour to sophisticated designer — ultimately establishing Victoria Beckham as one of the most respected brands in British fashion.
Reflecting on the change, she added:
“It came from wanting to be taken seriously and not really knowing who I was. Roland encouraged me to just be myself — to tone it down. That allowed me to express who I truly am through my collections.”
